Description
One of the many beautiful sights at Heidelberg Castle in Germany, Elisabeth Gate is said to have been constructed overnight as a gift from Frederick V to his Queen, Elisabeth Stuart, his English Princess bride. The four columns are tree trunks, covered in vines and hidden in the vines are little forest animals. The baroque triumphal arch was designed by Salomon de Caus and was built in 1615. Beyond the gate is the English Building, which was also constructed for the arrival of Elisabeth.
